Last week it was announced that Steven Colbert, the host of “The Colbert Report” will be taking over for David Letterman as the host of “The Late Show“. David Letterman has been the host of the late show for more than thirty years and has surpassed his old friend Johnny Carson as the longest lasting late night talk show host in History. David Letterman announced that in 2015, on his 32nd year he will retiring as the host of The Late Show and that Steven Colbert will take over for him as the host.
Steven Colbert has a mass following of fans who are a part of the younger generation. CBC, the network which hosts the late show choose Steven Colbert in hopes that it’ll bring in new viewers. This isn’t surprising as NBC did the same thing with “The Tonight Show”, when Jay Leno left the tonight show and Jimmy Fallon took over, a massive amount of young viewers starting watch the tonight show.
David Letterman has been a major powerhouse in the TV Industry. He owns his own publishing company called Worldwide Pants which has produced shows such as Everybody Loves Raymond and The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. He will be greatly missed in the industry as he has helped pave the path for sitcoms and late night television. Mr. Letterman won’t be leaving until early 2015, meaning that fans still have roughly six months of David Letterman left before he departs one final time.
