Heroes of Order and Chaos is a Multiplayer Online Battle Arena or a MOBA game. If you’re a diehard gamer that shouldn’t intimidate you but if you’re a bit of a newbie you might find this platform of gaming somewhat confusing. These kinds of games have really grown in popularity and increasingly, we’re seeing more of them being introduced. The basic object of these games is to navigate your character through a complex map that offers quests and riddles along the way and you can opt to journey down multiple paths and channels to get to the end and you’ll meet enemies and contingencies at every turn. This all seems simple enough if explained in that context but the confusion ensues through the multiple characters that come into play through the course of the game. Each of these is endowed with a unique set of facets in relation to combat and powers and such. Players will need to learn what each of these facets is and remember them as they return to play again and again. It’s like watching Game of Thrones…lots is going on.
The complexity of these games also lends to their beauty – they are well thought out. You’ll also see a number of upgrades that come into play as you earn gold throughout the game and you can purchase things like equipment and spells to help you in your battles. These are also unlocked as you hit certain milestones at no cost.
The tutorial is recommended as it will assist you in understanding how to control your movements and what the various options are that are available to you. Once you begin, you can head into a match on your own or choose a multiplayer battle. As you play more frequently, you’ll develop friends that you might enjoy playing with on a team. In the beginning, you may find the multiplayer events a bit busy for your tastes. Practicing on your own will get you over that hump and if you opt to play with others, don’t be too concerned about your mistakes. Just try to learn from each of them.
The touchscreen controls are pretty responsive and that should put to rest any concern that one might have around that going in. The icons for various tools are readily accessible and you can also choose to simply use a tap function to move around. The game is free-to-play which is always a welcome bonus but of course, as is often the case, it does limit the characters that are available for you to use in play. You can purchase more of the characters if you choose once you’ve decided that you enjoy the game enough to want to keep playing. The gear can be purchased using the coins that you earn throughout the course of play. You can likely get away without much of an investment particularly in the learning phases.
The artwork is very well rendered and the soundtrack meets the kind of expectation that you would have for a game of such complexity. The voice tracks that play throughout the game, however, are a bit cheesy and disappointing. Take them with a grain of salt and try to see the humour value they might lend to the game because it is otherwise rather worthwhile. The game is a great shot a MOBA so if this is something you’ve always wanted to try, Heroes of Order and Chaos provides you with a great opportunity.
