Real Racing 3 is a fantastic free-to-play sim racer for iPhone created by Firemonkeys studio that offers a realistic playing style that rivals the experience of real racing. You’ll need to employ all of your driving skills in playing this game which can be a great deal of fun if you love to drive. It won’t be long before you’re skidding out if you don’t slow the car down as you’re entering into the s-turns and when you hit a deep curve, you’ll have to brake into it before accelerating out to get the full power of centrifugal force. The game will give you the full effect of any driving errors you make while playing.
There are a variety of sports cars available with differentiating details in power, torque and how they handle. There are 46 cars that are available to purchase ranging from a Ford Focus right up to amazing selections like a Porsche 911 or a Bugatti Veyron. And they’re beautifully rendered – no slagging on the graphics here at all.
You can actually get by in this game without investing into any of the upgrades if you want to – the game tends to make its money from those that can’t wait to earn the rewards through game play. Additionally, you’ll have to suspend play when you need to send the cars in for repairs and you can buy you way out of that as well. This will happen if you’re edged off the track in a race or something similar so it can stop you from moving forward unless you pay the fees. This can be frustrating. The more you play, however, the less this will impact you as you’ll have more cars to sub in when one is in for repairs.
The social implications of the game will keep you coming back as well. While you’re not playing, it’s easy from someone on your friends list to snatch a title you’ve earned out from under you and you’ll have to return to recapture it. The game will remember every race that you have run and all of the details that occurred throughout the course of that race such as any damage done to your vehicle, what vehicle you used, your lap times, etc. This is a great feature to have. It will employ these details in matching your up for your race with other drivers and you’ll be competing with racers that have also completed that same race so it is always very competitive.
After all this gushing, there are also limitations on Real Racing 3. There are some odd idiosyncrasies that come into play like random braking when you’re not expecting it or unprovoked swerving along the track. This feels like it might be a deliberate effort to affect more damage and create scenarios where players are making purchases but that might just be cynical. That said, it is only fair that fremium games need to stay in business in some way and these small issues don’t serve to put the game off balance in a big way so fair enough. The quality of the game is such that you wouldn’t really even expect it to be a game that is free-to-play. Seriously, it’s one of the best racing games available on the iPhone.
