With everyone waiting with baited breath for the release of Tiny Tower, it makes one wonder if it lives up to the entire buzz that has surrounded it. As a “fremium” game, the price is definitely right so hopefully the game play will also not disappoint. Our reviewers checked it out and lo and behold…they love it!
Many may have the impressions based on the screenshots that accompanied the lead up that this might be the next Sim Tower and alas, it is not. Other than that, however, Tiny Tower is a great offering that is charming and a great successor to NimbleBit’s previous model, Pocket Frog. It’s quite addictive and that’s usually what game developers are shooting to do.
When you start the game, you’ll be met with the structure of the tower with only the lobby in place. It’s your job to build the tower up to its full capacity and you should start with making your first production and residential floors. The people that will live and work in your tower are known as “Bitizens” and the more of them that are there, bringing money into the tower, the higher you can build it and the more successful it can become.
The floors have items that need to be sold over a set amount of time and the items can be replenished through reordering when they are soldout. You’ll need to manage your Bitizens appropriately and make sure that production moves along smoothly on each of the floors. The more floors that you have, the more time you will have to spend at your tower, making sure that everything is being handled by your teams. You’ll be notified of tasks that need to be completed when you are not in the app so you can easily be pulled back into it many times throughout the day. While this is a great way to make sure that your tower runs like a charm, it might get you fired from your real job so you might want to consider turning off the notifications. Even without being notified, you can still sneak a look at your tower whenever you want. You won’t have the same kinds of concerns around spoilage as you do with some games as production will only slow down and not spoil. You won’t make as much money however which will slow your rate of growth. While you earn most of your money through the course of the game, you do always have the option to purchase more with your own money.
There is more to the game than all of this, however. The Bitizens are really the best part of the game and they will entertain you with their day to day life. Each of them has their own skills and talents and dreams. While they may work in specific areas of production, they may also be working toward their dream job. When they do get there, you’ll receive a nice bonus. There are also VIP Bitizens that have special skills and these can really contribute to your production. You can always check their thoughts and conversations through the Bitbook which is like a Facebook for Bitizens. Get it? Too cute.
If you have a great imagination, you’ll really be able to create an amazing tower. While you control the functionality and the inhabitants, you also control the design of not only the floors but the style of the Bitizens as well. Have fun with that and make it as fun and funky as you wish.
